The aim of the project was to get and visualize data retention logs from local GSM provider T-Mobile.

The project includes:
    * the legislative part (creating framework for claiming the data from any Czech GSM provider)
    * visualization part (framework for publishing the data explanative way).

===== Goals of the Project =====

Show how is data retention legislative is implemented and executed in Czech Republic. The aim was on visualizing the data in the way that did it Malte Spitz in famous article Tell-all telephone http://www.zeit.de/datenschutz/malte-spitz-data-retention.

===== Status =====

Data was successfully retrieved from T-Mobile and precedent was made by decision of The Office for Personal Data Protection http://www.uoou.cz/uoou.aspx. Article about data retention was published on iHNed datablog http://data.blog.ihned.cz/c1-59259950-data-retention-zivot-v-zaznamech-mobilniho-operatora .


===== Getting data =====

Data was retrieved by § 12 Zákona č. 101/2000 Sb., o ochraně osobních údajů http://www.zakonyprolidi.cz/cs/2000-101. Full template of application could be downloaded as MS Word DOC format https://t.co/cBx6JOMe. You will get data in .TSV file and you will be charged for fee somewhere around 280 CZK.

===== Visualizing =====

For displaying your changing location based on data retention was used [[https://code.google.com/p/timemap/|TimeMap]] framework, customized version with animation is provided on GitHub repository https://github.com/datastory/Data-retention. Data from original data retention log needs to be converted a geotagged, for example by using GSMweb's BTS database http://gsmweb.cz/.
